Plastics are an amazing material that plays unique and essential roles in many fields such as medicine. They were invented to help save the natural world! But the way we use them now is a big problem that calls for change on all levels — economic, industrial, and personal. Come learn about the new ways to act at a personal and economic level (biodegradable 6-pack rings for beverage cans, advocate for bulk stores where you bring your own containers) — and make your own waxed-cotton food wrap to take away.
Indoor Gardening: Ginger and Turmeric
Ginger and turmeric are handsome, easy-care houseplants, and rewarding. Start them indoors in late winter, keeping them warm and in a sunny window; take the pot outside for the summer if you can; in the fall, harvest a little and replant some of the knobs. In this workshop you’ll see the raw rhizomes, learn how to plant them and care for them, pick up some fun facts about these amazing plants, and take a “hand” home to start your own.
Homemade Hand Creams
Why make your own hand cream? So many reasons! It’s easy, inexpensive, and you can customize the fragrance to what you like. It avoids plastics, preservative chemicals, and micro-beads. And it’s very satisfying to whip together a couple of ingredients into a cream and keep it in an attractive container on your shelf. Go through the process with us, take your sample home, and make more whenever you want. Includes special tips for gardeners who can grow their own herbs.
