Building Roots and our partners need your help to create a sustainable Urban Farm on Queen St E a reality in 2018! The unique project will produce affordable, organically grown and culturally appropriate foods to Moss Park Market – the first Shipping Container Grocery Store – to communities that need it.
Sponsoring a row today (below) will allow us to start planting this Spring as soon as the snow melts!
In 2017 we produced a significant amount of food as a pilot at Ashbridge Estate. Some of the harvest was delivered and sold in our Store as an innovative and effective pilot. Residents loved getting fresh kale and callaloo at a dollar a bunch to cook for their families, learn about urban farming, and use in our cooking program.
This year we’re creating an expanded Urban Farm with our partner growers, the Black Farmers & Growers Collective, NishDish and Heather Allen. We’re committed to a Market that provides high-quality foods, while paying our hard-working farmers a living wage. Revenues from crops sold will support the operation of Moss Park Market and will aim to feed 500 residents.
By Sponsoring a Row in our Urban Farm at Ashbridge Estate, you’ll help us to bring this land back to it’s original uses in agriculture. You’ll also become a Building Roots Supporter, sharing in special updates about our work across the region – your name will appear on our website and in the Market.
Building Roots is proud to partner with the Family Association for Mental Health Everywhere to build social cohesion and community health in Moss Park. Please contact us first to make a donation or sponsorship over $250 and receive a charitable receipt.
Donors of $250 or more will be invited for an educational urban farm experience at Ashbridge Estate with our team – perfect for families, local food enthusiasts and neighbours.
