Position Title: Senior Coordinator, Community Engagement
Position Overview: The Senior Coordinator, Community Engagement will work closely with the Director of Community Engagement and the larger Building Roots team to coordinate and implement various outreach and volunteer operations
Remuneration: Annual salary of $50,000. 4 day work weeks. Extended health benefits will be provided upon commencement of employment. Worker benefits, vacation and sick time will apply as stated in the Building Roots Handbook.
Schedule: Days of work are Wednesday through to Saturday.
Scope of Work:
- Community engagement on Saturdays to include supervising the function and flow of the food market; assisting with any customer service issues that may arise; Conflict resolution and de-escalation as needed; direct volunteers in the food market; other tasks as they arise
- Manage the PWYC program at the market.
- Community engagement during the week related to feedback on programming, listening to community needs, interacting with volunteers and partner organizations, and other tasks as assigned by the Director of Community Engagement.
- Support with training volunteers and in the coordination of volunteer scheduling
- Support with data collection related to community engagement evaluations (surveys, amount of food used, etc.) and related administrative tasks
- Contribute to the strategic planning as it relates to community engagement strategies; areas of focus for greatest impact; and community needs.
- Oversee the direction of the Moss Park Market and work directly with the Director of Community Engagement and Director of Programming to collaborate on the evolution of the hub
- Support the delivery of thoughtful and supportive offerings for community members while cultivating inclusive learnings, trust and respectful practices
- Engages and supports in reflective practices and debriefs with Director of Community Engagement and staff
Skills needed:
- Minimum one year experience working in a position that works directly with the community and community development
- Training and experience in de-escalation, harm/risk reduction, conflict mediation, crisis intervention and the ability to stay calm
- Experience and training related to working from a trauma-informed and holistic practice
- A second language is an asset (such as,Cantonese, Mandarin, Arabic)
- Time management, organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team
- Experience managing budgets, costs and supply expenditures
- Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills for community meetings, workshops, events and essential community programming
- Experience working in diverse and direct service settings with adults who experience the impacts of poverty, homelessness/under-housing, mental health and or substance use challenges, and other sources of marginalization or oppressions
