Claire Shipley joined Building Roots as a volunteer in the spring of 2025 and describes the experience as genuinely lifealtering. Connecting with the staff, volunteers, and community has reshaped her understanding of what matters most and inspired her to consider how she can help create meaningful change—for others and for herself. Local to Moss Park, Claire has been deeply inspired by getting to know the team and members, which has strengthened her commitment to communitybuilding. Born in South Africa and having lived in Australia before making Toronto home, she brings a global perspective and a rich operational background spanning banking, real estate, and higher education. You may see Claire in the neighbourhood as a dog mom to her beautiful rescue dog Vivienne. She also loves travelling, good food, and live music.
