Nico Koyanagi

She/They | Senior Coordinator, Moss Park Community Garden
Nico is a mixed-race yonsei (fourth-generation Japanese Canadian) who grew up as a settler in Nogojiwanong on Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg territory (Peterborough, ON). She is a registered social worker, community organizer, and educator with diverse experience working with grassroots organizations. Her work is grounded in decolonization, food sovereignty, and transformative justice, and guided by questions of how we can live with greater care and accountability to ourselves, one another, and the earth while resisting systems of harm. Through collaboration, she focuses on building relationships, strengthening community capacity, and supporting collective liberation. As Senior Coordinator for Community Gardens at Building Roots, she is excited to deepen connections to the land, support community leadership, and grow resilient food systems.
