From the first Saturday in June until the last Saturday in September, Building Roots works with a variety of local partners and artists to animate the public space outside the Moss Park Market.
It’s very important to us to support a variety of mediums while empowering these local artists. Summer Saturdays have proven success in increasing the use of public space and community events, providing a safe space for neighbours to connect while exploring the arts.
Activities include the Moss Park Fun Zone (featuring free giveaways & fun for kids and youth), arts & crafts, live music, snacks, drinks, and more!
In 2021 we introduced sports and recreation equipment sign-outs, which we will expand in 2022.
In 2022, you can also expect the return of our 3rd annual Café Caribbean, in collaboration with JamaicanEats Magazine.
Subscribe to our bi-weekly Outreach Newsletter to stay updated as more details for 2022 are announced.
(Grace Cameron, Editor of JamaicanEats magazine previously & graciously wrote a blog for us. Read About the Cultural Heritage of Ackee & Saltfish Here.)
If you have any questions, concerns or inquiries – we welcome you to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org
We also very much encourage you to reach out if you feel you have contributions or ideas that you feel would work with Summer Saturdays!
We would like to give a special thanks to the community partners, sponsors, supporters and wide-range of creatives who make these summer animations possible. In particular, Danielle Rebelle Productions, who has assisted with booking talent.
