We are proud to share with you our 2023 Impact Rep We are proud to share with you our 2023 Impact Report. 🍅 It was a challenging yet rewarding year: as our society began to recover from Covid-19, the crisis of access to food and housing continued to deepen, impacting communities near and far. In 2023, we had an unprecedented number of participants in our services and programs, which highlighted the deepening food security crisis. Despite these challenges, 2023 was also a year with wonderful connections in many ways. There was an incredible outpouring of support from the community, with a record number of volunteers contributing their time and resources. We also enjoyed many community events from a mending fair, to summertime live music, to hosting listening circles and much more. Our deepest gratitude to everyone who helped make a challenging 2023 also fun and heartwarming. 💛 Link to the Impact Report in our bio!

We had our annual volunteer appreciation event las We had our annual volunteer appreciation event last Thursday (more pictures to come) and the wonderful @esrasmarket was our caterer! In this video, Esra’s owner/operator Muna talks about the two traditional Sudanese soups she lovingly prepared for us: Addas soup (lentil - vegan) and Kaware soup (cow trotters - Halal). Thank you @esrasmarket for your hard work to make everyone warm and cozy during this winter event!
We are indeed so fortunate to have worked and deve We are indeed so fortunate to have worked and developed meaningful relationships with some of the most amazing Black-owned businesses in the neighbourhood over the years. Starting today and throughout next week, we would like to highlight the wonderful Esra’s Market @esrasmarket (237 Dundas E.; M-F 8-7, Sa 11-7) located right at Moss Park. An organic market, fresh juice and smoothie bar, cafe and pastry shop, and purveyor of many other goodies, Esra’s is also an important community hub that opens its door to everyone, connecting neighbours, incubating friendships, and creating communities. Drop by for a beverage and some snacks if you have time. Please stayed tuned to us for more stories about Esra’s. #blackownedbusiness #blackhistorymonth #downtowntoronto
We wish you had a restful and nourishing break! In We wish you had a restful and nourishing break! In 2024, Building Roots will continue and expand our mission, brining more fresh food and community well-being programs to Moss Park and Toronto’s Downtown East. Our Moss Park Market will resume its regular weekly hours (11am to 3pm) starting this Saturday, January 6th. We look forward to seeing you there!
This year, we are proud to have become part of Com This year, we are proud to have become part of Community Fridges Toronto’s (@cf___to) network of Community Pantries. There are two pantries along the south and west walls of the Moss Park Market (260 Queen Street E), accessible by community member 24/7. Donations of dry goods are always welcome, especially during our market closure from Dec 24 to Jan 3 and will ensure community members will receive an extra bit of help during the holidays. Due to the low temperatures this time of year, canned goods or fresh produce may go bad if it freezes. Please keep this in mind when donating. Please consider dropping off food items to our pantries to share with residents of Moss Park and Downtown East over the holidays. Thank you! #communityfridgestoronto #foodaccess #torontodonations
